Plains and Punctuation
The flat expanse of trees
A run-on sentence in a paragraph already
Too lengthy to keep the reader’s attention.
No rise and fall, steady and sure.
Punctuated
With birds that circle in endless cycles.
“There is no point of leaving,”
They caw
“The only movement to make
Is to inch forward until death.”
But in the story of my life,
I crave the crescendo of the hill and
The unrivaled glory of the downhill denouement.
Let me not lurch to my end,
But may I toil and burn, yearning for more
Until the very last page.
