Shae Olazaran
Editor-in-Chief
Senior, English major
Shae grew up in Denver, Colorado. In her dream life, she’s one of those people who rakes the baseball diamond between innings to make it all smooth and even, or maybe a mail carrier for a town with only one stoplight. And she would write novels in her spare time, of course. Her favorite childhood book was The Digging-Est Dog, and her favorite childhood dog was allergic to the sun. She’s excited to be the Editor-in-Chief for the Wineskin, even though she’s still unclear whether that title is equivalent to Chief Editor or is a mishearing of the term Editor and Chief, or if it means something else entirely.
Darian Vertz
Managing Editor
Junior, English writing major
Darian is from Kennewick in the Tri-Cities, Washington. Many beloved childhood books hold a place in her heart; therefore, her top favorite is a tie between Sophie’s Masterpiece and A Bad Case of Stripes. In her dream life, she’s probably writing books from home in a room with a LOT of big windows, wearing a pair of matching pajamas, and peeking over a pair of blue light glasses while telling her kids to please close the door and give her five more minutes. Darian’s most prized possession is a teddy bear she got the day she was born (Elton John’s birthday). She is over the moon to be the Managing Editor this year, as it sounds so fancy and official, and is pretty much a dream come true.
Eryn Gates
Design Editor
Sophmore, English Major
Eryn grew up in Lebanon, Oregon. In her dream life, she runs a bed and breakfast in Greece, overlooking the ocean. At night, she and her seven cats snuggle while she rewatches How I Met Your Mother for the millionth time. Or maybe she is a semi-pro surfer in Hawaii whose freckles have overtaken her face, so no one knows what her face color or freckle color is. Her favorite childhood book was Farmyard Tales, which helped her convince her family to buy a farm when she was five. On this farm, she once successfully gave CPR to a rogue bird who had snuck into her house, dislodging the dog food from its throat. She is excited to be your design editor because she loves design and editing, so when put together, she should love it doubly so.

Editor-in-Chief | Do We Know What We’re Losing?, 2023
Marketing Director | Babel, Fall 2022Hi, I’m Ally. I believe that literature is one of the most important things on the planet!
I'm from Southern California, I love coffee, thrift stores, and good food. I'm strategic, creative, good at communicating, and have a LARGE gap in working experience because all the programs I've been a part of since high school stipulate that you can't have jobs! My overarching goals in life are 1) finding out what is The Good Life and 2) how can I consistently pursue truth, goodness, and beauty.

Graphic Designer | Do We Know What We’re Losing? 2023
Graphic Designer | Babel, Fall 2022I have three loves: words, music, and drawing. I believe that story is one of the greatest parts of existence, and I'm passionate about stories told through various mediums (novels, poetry, graphic novels, songs, etc.). I'm a chronic bibliophile, reading eight or more books at a time. One of these days my books will fall over and kill me. Until then, I want to read as many as possible. I have a deep dislike of anything written in present-tense, and doubly so for present-tense first-person. There is only one book in P.T. 1st P. that I liked (the Seven and a Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle). My dream is to one day be a published author.

Poetry Editor | Witness, Fall 2021As you can see here I’m pretty proud of my flip phone. I like vinyl but I also like folgers coffee. I think few things are better than a poem spoken aloud from memory—learned “by heart.” I think getting an MFA in poetry is silly.
I am from Portland, OR. I enjoy working outside. I enjoy talking with friends on a rainy day.

Spanish with History & TESOL minors, 2023
Poetry Editor | Babel, Fall 2022
Besides writing poetry, of course, I love to play guitar, paint, learn languages, crochet, make memes, and daydream to a soundtrack of Pink Floyd and Chicago. I am obsessed with the music, fashion, cars, and other pop culture of the 1950's-1980's, which influences my self-expression and art more than anything else in the world. I've worked all sorts of jobs, from baker to art teacher to janitor. In the fall of 2021, I studied in Sevilla, Spain and the further I get away from that time, the more I realize a small part of me still lives there.
You can catch me around campus with my head in the clouds and wearing bell bottoms or saddle shoes, depending on the day.

Well, I'm Brayden Tibbetts. I’m an avid amateur photographer.
Here is a list of things. It starts with things I love and ends with things I despise. Everything falls somewhere on this list.
1. My late beta fish
2. The willow tree near my house
3. My best friend’s dog
4. A Lego spaceship I designed
5. Playing cards
6. Lamps
7. The tv show Friends
8. Dairy-free ice cream
9. Cheap paper
10. Splinters -

Prose Editor | Interruption, Fall 2020I primarily read memoirs and creative nonfiction (catch me always studying outside of class). In my own work, I explore the intersectionality of nature and spirituality. I would describe my writing style as Mary Oliver meets Brian Doyle meets Anne Lamott. Fun fact! This summer I got a tattoo inspired by Mary Oliver’s poem, “Wild Geese.”

Sociology: Global & Intercultural Studies with Art & Politics Minors, 2022
Art Editor | Commonplace, Spring 2022
Art Editor | Witness, Fall 2021The only thing I can say about myself is that I really truly love art. If I could sit in a museum looking at expressions of thoughts and ideas I would… I love photography, painting, and poetry. Honestly, if I’m not making art I’m either talking about it, looking at it, or reading about it. Catch me geeking out over some random fact about Artemesia Gentileschi.

Social Media Director | Witness, Fall 2021When I got to George Fox, all I knew was that I loved reading and I loved writing. I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I figured I would start there. Over my years here, I fell in love with communications and media. I am so excited to use everything I have learned about critical thinking, literature, and business out in the real world.
Fun fact: I have been to over 20 countries.

Editor-in-Chief | Formation, Spring 2021
Editor-in-Chief | Interruption, Fall 2020I’ve been in love with stories and words for as long as I can remember; the evolution from a love of reading to a love of writing seemed inevitable to me as a child. My love of poetry developed later on, as I began to realize what words can do when directed towards beauty and truth.
Fun Fact! I have, at one point in my life or another, lived in three different countries besides the United States!
